Accountancy firms merge following death of managing partner

Rotherham and Sheffield-based Chartered Accountants SMH have merged with Accountancy firm Andertons Liversidge.

The merger follows the recent death of Rex Johnson, the managing partner at Andertons Liversidge, who lost his battle with cancer.

Johnson joined Andertons Liversidge in 1995, helping to establish the firm, which dates back to 1901, as a key accountancy practice in the South Yorkshire region.

Following his diagnosis, he became passionate about securing the future for Andertons Liversidge, to enable its staff and clients to continue working together with a ‘business as usual’ approach. The merger with SMH was agreed shortly before he died in September 2019.

Jonathon Dickens, Partner at SMH, said: “After leading Andertons Liversidge for almost 25 years, Rex had a real passion for the business and it was of great importance to him to make sure he could safeguard the future for both staff and clients following his passing.

“As a result, we are excited to welcome Andertons Liversidge into the SMH group to ensure Rex’s legacy can live on in a way he would be proud of.

“We extend a warm welcome to our new colleagues, and will continue to provide a first class service to clients of Andertons Liversidge who will be supported by the full service offering we have at SMH.”

Andertons Liversidge will re-brand as SMH Andertons Liversidge, and continue to operate from its offices on Percy Street in Rotherham.

Ross Jordan ACCA, senior manager at SMH, will be heading the existing SMH Andertons Liversidge office, looking after all clients’ needs.
