My Yorkshire: Beth McQue, of Keyland Developments

Beth McQue, Development Planner at Keyland Developments.

Where do you live/where are you from?

I live in Leeds but I’m originally from York.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Robin Hoods Bay as I’ve got lots of great memories of visiting my grandparents there during school summer holidays when I was younger. It’s a beautiful part of the Yorkshire coast.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

The Piece Hall, Halifax. They have an extensive creative events programme and seem to maintain a real vibrancy so it’s definitely on my list of places to visit.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

I had a meal at ‘Home’ in Leeds last Christmas time – amazing food focused on British products without the ‘stuffy’ feeling of a posh restaurant. It was a real treat.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

I call lunch dinner and dinner tea.

Favourite piece of trivia about the region?

Yorkshire has more Michelin Star restaurants than anywhere outside London.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

Yorkshire puddings of course! I always make extra so we can have them with gravy as part of a Sunday roast and then for afters with golden syrup.

First experience of Yorkshire (for non-Yorkshire folk)

I’m a little biased as it’s my hometown but I would always send visitors for a day out in York.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

As I commute to work via train, I would say the trainlines!

What is the one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

My boyfriend’s family as it would stop our continuous debates on whether we should move to Manchester or stay in Leeds.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

Absolutely nowt!
