Business wins engineering contract for national HQ property

Leeds-based Adept Civil and Structural Consulting Engineers has provided full civil and structural engineering services on a brand new national HQ for carbon monoxide and fire alarm giant, Aico.

The three-storey building includes offices, a training centre, auditorium, state-of-the-art distribution centre and warehouse space, complete with a glass lift within a feature atrium area. The site also includes car parking and extensive landscaping.

Aico’s expansion to the new site will enable it to increase its workforce and grow its annual turnover from £110m to £150m within the next five years.

Work is now complete at the seven-acre site based in Oswestry, Shropshire. Adept has designed the 5,500 sq m building’s vast steel frame, which weighs approximately 230 tonnes.

Erol Erturan, managing director at Adept, said: “Aico is a well-known company and its market leading products are found in homes throughout the UK and beyond, and we’re delighted to have worked on its new HQ.

“The landmark building includes a wide range of statement features, including a striking, large-scale atrium and glass lift. These both required an innovative engineering solution which creates a hugely impressive entrance for anyone walking into the building.”

Neal Hooper, managing director of Aico, said: “This is our first purpose-built HQ and is the result of significant investment. It gives us a statement building and is one of the biggest developments in North Shropshire, which will enable us to significantly grow the business.

“Adept came up with a completely bespoke solution as well as producing 3D models of the steelwork using BIM, which all really appealed to us, for such a key aspect of the project.”

Aico offers a range of high-quality domestic fire and carbon monoxide alarms, developed through pioneering new technologies.

The company had been at its current premises on Mile End Business Park in Oswestry for more than 20 years and moved into its new premises on 4 November 2019.
