£3.8m services win at building society’s new HQ
NG Bailey has been appointed to work on the new headquarters for Leeds Building Society.
Graham Interiors has selected NG Bailey to work in partnership on the interior fit-out at the Society’s new head office in Sovereign Street, in Leeds city centre.
NG Bailey has been awarded the contract, valued at £3.8m, to provide full mechanical and electrical (M&E) and public health installation services as part of the overall £12m refurbishment.
The engineering and services business will deliver lighting, power, security, data, fire alarms, ventilation, heating and cooling, drainage and domestic water services. Many of the installations will be manufactured by NG Bailey’s Offsite Manufacture team.
The building society is relocating its Leeds city centre headquarters to the building, which was formerly occupied by law firm Addleshaw Goddard and is close to the railway station.
The move to its new home will enable Leeds Building Society to bring together more than 800 staff, currently spread across three locations, in one office to improve efficiency.
The refurbishment will create 120,000 sq ft of space encompassing executive suites and boardrooms, training facilities, meeting spaces, open plan office spaces, open plan atrium and café as well as basement parking.

Mike Briffett, Leeds Building Society’s project director for its new head office, said making the building as environmentally-friendly as possible was a key priority in the design, refit and use of the space.
He said: “As well as bringing together all our Leeds office colleagues for the first time, our new home will enable us to reduce both our carbon and energy costs.
“This will be the first time in more than 80 years that we’ve moved our headquarters so we want to respect our heritage in Leeds while ensuring the building is fit for the future for many decades to come.”
NG Bailey will have a team of around 25 working on site, including five apprentices, two building services engineering students and one graduate engineer. The team will be encouraged to use public transport to reduce congestion around the busy site.
Additionally, many of the lighting and power installations will be manufactured at NG Bailey’s specialist Offsite Manufacture facility in Bradford. This will help reduce the number of man-hours required on site as well as keeping vehicle movements around site to a minimum.
The scheme is expected to be completed in September 2020.
