Sheffield-based software company WANdisco has secured a $3m (£2.3m) three-year contract with Micro-D, one of Africa’s most established IT companies.

The distributor agreement will initially see the company’s patented Fusion platform deployed across key enterprises in the region.

Through its network of resellers and partners, Micro-D will deploy WANdisco’s products to enable cloud migration and continuous data availability and consistency for customers.

And there is potential to expand the contract, as Micro-D leverages its network of resellers across Africa.

WANdisco said this deal marks a significant entry for its business into the high growth African market, with Fusion to be implemented across major enterprises on the Continent.

Fusion is designed to enable organisations to seamlessly move large volumes of data with consistent and continuous availability whilst meeting regulatory requirements.

This technology has been developed so customers can use the impact of their IT investment to support exponential data growth without growing their IT budget.

Mike Perry, managing director of Micro-D, said: “We are delighted to be appointed as WANdisco’s Master Distributor for Africa.

“Our customers and partners have been demanding a clear and transparent cloud migration strategy. We have extensively reviewed leading cloud migration vendors and are extremely impressed with the WANdisco suite of products.

“We are further encouraged by WANdisco’s collaborative approach to the African marketplace and their commitment to assisting customers to achieve desired results. We look forward to jointly developing sales and support networks for the full suite of cloud migration tools.”

David Richards, chief executive officer and chairman of WANdisco, said: “We are hugely excited by this new relationship with Micro-D and working with them to bring WANdisco products to their customers and partners.

“The need for data consistency and data availability is a global trend driven by the need for enterprises to leverage their key asset, data, through machine learning and AI.

“Africa is clearly a growth region and I see further potential in leveraging our embedded Azure offering which we continue to expect will be available and revenue generating in early 2020, if not even earlier in this current 2019 year.”

Micro-D Ltd was founded in 1994 and is now a provider of tier-one brands including Dell, HP and Lenovo.
