Guilty verdict in trial for fatal accident at engineering business

A trial which began earlier this month into a fatal accident at a subsidiary of a Sheffield-based specialist engineering group has delivered a guilty verdict.

Listed company Pressure Technologies today confirmed the outcome of a prosecution by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) following the death at its subsidiary – Chesterfield Special Cylinders – in June 2015.

The Group previously submitted a plea of not guilty on 6 March 2019 to a charge brought by the HSE based on the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

The trial has been taking place at Sheffield Crown Court.

In a statement released this morning, a Pressure Technologies spokesman said: “Trial proceedings have concluded and the jury has delivered a guilty verdict pursuant to Section 2 of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.

“A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for 9 December 2019 and the company expects that the penalty will be determined at that time.”

Pressure Technologies Group designs and manufactures safety-critical components and systems serving global supply chains in oil and gas, defence, industrial gases and hydrogen energy markets.

The Group has two divisions, Precision Machined Components and Chesterfield Special Cylinders.
