Building and refurbishment company MD steps down
Jeremy Illingworth, managing director of Huddersfield-based principle contracting business, Illingworth & Gregory, is stepping down from his position.
In November 2017 Sewell Group, a Yorkshire based estates business, completed its investment in Illingworth & Gregory. Sewell Group was handpicked by Illingworth, due to the similarities he could see in culture, ways of working and because it was a fellow family-run, employee focused company.
He now says he has made a “difficult decision” to depart from his role with the company.
He added: “My family connection with I&G and the positive relationships I have made with Sewell make this announcement a difficult one, and it is with mixed emotions that I announce my departure from the Group, leaving my position with I&G at the end of 2019.
“I will, however, happily be making myself available to the team as and when required to support the successful business leadership transition.”
“Over the last two years I have had the opportunity to share my knowledge and company plans with many of the Sewell team, and as such I am confident in handing over the reins to directors, Sean Henderson and Chris Soper from Sewell Construction who will continue to work alongside existing I&G Directors, Dean Simpson and Neil Tinker to help steer the I&G team as it moves forward.
“With their existing relationships in the I&G business and intimate knowledge of our company, I anticipate this will be a seamless transition and that our ways of working with both our customers and our team will continue to be unaffected.

Illingworth has been managing director at I&G for over a decade but first began working at his family’s business nearly 20 years ago.
