City highlighted as future global FinTech hub

Leeds has been highlighted as one of the FinTech hubs to watch in 2020 by the Global FinTech Index.

The city was ranked 102 in the total global rankings but highlighted by the report’s authors as one of 20 hubs that “are the fastest climbers up the global start-up ecosystem ranking table.”

The report’s authors highlighted the cities as having a good quality of life, deep talent pools and a proximity to a thriving start-up scene.

Also in the top 20 were Cambridge and Chinese city Hangzhou – which has twinned with Leeds since 1988.

The report made for positive reading for the city with the UK taking second place in the FinTech Country Rankings just behind the United States.

In terms of UK cities in the Regional Rankings Table for Europe, London maintained the top spot, with Manchester the second highest UK city taking 19th place in Europe, Cambridge 32nd and Leeds 39th, followed by Edinburgh and Bristol in 41st and 49th respectively.
