The Coalfields Regeneration Trust, which supports the 5.7 million people living in former mining communities throughout the UK, has appointed Richard Jones as development manager for its Employment and Skills programme.

Richard will support an existing team of professional coaches to deliver employment and skills services to benefit residents in Barnsley, Rotherham and Doncaster.

As well as delivering the programme, he will also focus on a new initiative which will review the needs of businesses and identify apprenticeships which could fill this gap.

Prior to joining to the Coalfields Regeneration Trust, Jones played an integral role within the careers team at the University of York Management School.

He said: “Having lived in an ex-mining area my whole life, I’ve also witnessed the full impact of the removal of an industry and I am aware of the scale of work that needs to be delivered.

“I relish a challenge both in and out of work and look forward to building my knowledge of the national apprenticeship programme, meeting with employers and understanding what skills provision is available to them.”
