Indian street food brand coming to city centre location

Mowgli, which specialises in Indian street food, is to open a branch at 34 Boar Lane in Leeds.

The business, which already has restaurants across England, including a base in Sheffield, was founded by dedicated “curry evangelist” Nisha Katona.

She gave up her 20-year career as a barrister to help lead diners away from stereotypical curries, showing them that real Indian food is extremely healthy, often vegan and always packed with fresh flavour.

In 2018 Mowgli was awarded a placement in The Sunday Times Fast Track 100 list, and this year Katona was recognised with an MBE in the 2019 New Year Honours list for services to the Food Industry.

Commenting on the new Leeds venture today, she said: “I’m so excited to announce Mowgli Leeds has been secured today and now has spades in the ground at 34 Boar Lane. A beautiful glass fronted building on a busy and very ‘Mowgli’ street.

“Leeds is a city I have hankered after for the last four years. I had to find exactly the right place and exactly the right building and it took this long. I need to open around March, because I have an insecure attachment to this city of Leeds after four years of chasing her!”

34 Boar Lane was acquired last year by George Haddo and Samuel Lawson Johnson who set up their investment company Kinrise in 2015.

The pair subsequently transformed the 57,000 sq ft building, formerly CGU House, into a mixed-use development, including 47,000 sq ft office space.
