Renovation begins of historic attraction

A contractor has been appointed to carry out the renovation of Hull’s East Park splash boat.

John H Rundle will carry out the design and restoration of the historic water chute before it reopens to visitors in spring 2020.

The listed Wicksteed splash boat has been providing thrills to visitors since 1929 and is one of just three left in the country.

Councillor Dave Craker, portfolio holder for culture, leisure and tourism, said: “The splash boat is a star attraction in East Park and has been delighting visitors for generations, so it is vital that we maintain and invest in it.

“We have reached a significant milestone by appointing a specialist contractor and I look forward to reopening the ride once the repairs have been completed.

“Hull has some fantastic parks and open spaces which should be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come.”

Rundles is a family-run business that specialises in amusement ride repairs, relocation and inspections.

The company was awarded the £118,650 contract following a competitive tender process. Work to repair the splash boat will begin this week.
