£1.5m improvements works to start on key road junction

Work to improve safety at a key East Yorkshire junction will begin this week.
Highways England will be upgrading the junction where the eastbound A63 meets the A1034 at South Cave, Hull. It will change the layout, permanently reduce the speed limit to 40-mph on the A1034 and enhance crossing points and footpaths to make the junction safer.
Highways England project manager Steve Bishop said: “By carrying out this £1.5m improvement on this important route we will be making this junction safer for pedestrians and other road users. Reducing the speed limit from 50-mph to 40-mph will also improve safety and traffic flow on this busy stretch of road.
“We want to thank drivers for their patience while we carry out this work.”
Highways England is also widening a section of the A1034 on behalf of East Riding of Yorkshire Council. This will allow a dedicated right-turn to be created for vehicles coming from Brough and waiting to access the A63 eastbound entry slip road.
The new layout will take road users travelling south from the A1034 to a new left turn to access the eastbound A63. This will replace the link road which is currently in place.
To carry out these changes safely, work will take place overnight between 7pm and 7am using temporary traffic lights on the A1034 and at the top of the A63 exit slip road.
Work will start on Monday 20 January and will finish by April 2020.
The speed limit on the A1034 will be restricted to 40-mph throughout the work. After the upgrade is completed the speed limit through the junction will permanently change to 40-mph.
Drivers have been warned there will be some closures on the exit slip road overnight while the traffic management is installed and removed and the road resurfaced. These restrictions will be signed in advance and clearly signed diversion routes will be in use while the slip road is closed.
