Chinese consul shows support for NPR

Speaking at the Leeds City Regio China Business Awards 2020 last night, Chinese consul general, Mr. Zheng Xiyuan urged London to speed up delivery of Northern Powerhouse Rail and rail improvements across the North.

Mr. Zheng Xiyuan, who is based at the Chinese Consulate in Manchester said: “During a conversation last week with Sir Alan [Langlands] vice chancellor of the University of Leeds I shared my dream that during my term I would the construction of Northern Powerhouse Rail in order to link Leeds and Manchester as well as other cities more closely.”

Investment in the North’s rail infrastructure was clearly close to the consul general’s heart as he called for Government to listen to the collected voice of the region, adding: “I hope the Northern anticipation for the investment in rail upgrades could be heard more speedily by London.”
