Where do you live/where are you from?

I live in Boston Spa near Wetherby and I was born in Mirfield.

What is your favourite place to visit in Yorkshire and why?

Malham Cove. A perfect day would begin with a cardio workout and involve stunning scenery and a great pint.

What is still on your “to do” list in the region?

I’d love to play a competitive game of senior rugby with my son – for Wetherby RUFC.

What is the most memorable meal you’ve ever had in Yorkshire?

I once witnessed a full-blown saloon style brawl in The Commonwealth Indian restaurant in Bradford. It was certainly memorable, as was followed by a night out at Cloud nine – which was undoubtedly Yorkshire’s best nightclub.

I also always enjoy Bibis in Leeds – it never fails to deliver.

What is your most Yorkshire trait?

I’m an unashamedly prudent spender – some might say tight!

Favourite piece of trivia about the region.

It took 252 years to build York Minster.

What is your favourite cultural icon to come out of Yorkshire?

There are too many – but couple who stand out – Joseph Priestley who discovered oxygen and Ed Sheeran who was born in Halifax.

First experience of Yorkshire (for non-Yorkshire folk)

The M62 – we were visiting relatives in Manchester and I remember going past the signpost on the motorway that changes from a white rose to a red one.

Worst experience or thing about Yorkshire?

It’s difficult to access finance as a start-up or a business in its early stages. Yorkshire has its fair share of innovators – but without cash it can be extremely difficult to start, let alone scale up.

What is one thing you’d steal from Lancashire (or other UK regions) if you could?

The Sale Sharks! Unfortunately, Yorkshire Carnegie are really struggling and for the UK’s largest county not to have a Premiership rugby team is a real shame. Also, it would be good to have the long-haul destinations Heathrow offers in northern airports.

What is the most overrated thing about Yorkshire?

Yorkshire Tea – how can its leaves be so much better than other regions?!
