Fabricator completes £1.3m investment

SevenHills Fabrication, one of the Steetley Corner Group of companies, has completed an investment programme worth more than £1.3m.

The Sheffield company, which has demonstrated 31% year-on-year growth with a turnover of £3.5m, has rounded off its investment drive with the installation of a £200,000 press brake and a £150,000 robot welder.

The latest investments have been supported by the Sheffield City Region Business Investment Fund and enable SevenHills Fabrication, a specialist fabrication and laser cutting business based at the city’s Holbrook Industrial Estate, to continue its transition to Industry 4.0 operations.

Managing director of SevenHills, James Harding-Terry, said: “The company’s transition to industry 4.0 is essential for future-proofing the business.

“Over the past three years, SevenHills has installed a £550,000 Bystronic fibre laser cutting machine, a £60,000 electric tube-bending machine and a £250,000 computer system for full mapping of production, accounting, purchasing and distribution.

“The new machines complete a substantial investment programme for us that really sets this company apart from traditional fabrication businesses as we take on increasingly complex and challenging projects across a range of sectors.”

SevenHillls, which can trace its history back to 1926, has completed other investments, including £50,000 on improved extraction facilities, LED lighting throughout its operations and measures to improve the company’s energy consumption, waste material ratios, local environment and staff working conditions.

Harding-Terry added: “Operating in conjunction with new machines such as the tube bender, press brake and our robot welder, the computer system will help to up-skill our workforce so that they are able to adapt to Industry 4.0 methods.

“Our plan is to continue expanding our operations following a decade of growth and having the technology, equipment and skills to run a manufacturing operation which continually adapts and improves is the future for this company. This approach should be the standard for British manufacturers.”

SevenHills’ growth contributes to Steetley Corner Group’s £8.9m turnover, growing at 23%.

Harding-Terry said: “Aside from the challenges and opportunities presented to industry through Brexit, the UK has to achieve manufacturing stability, growth and global excellence so that domestic businesses like ours may succeed. We must compete at the highest level, adopting the best resources available.”

SevenHills Fabrication supplies high technology solutions to aerospace, defence, hygiene, medical, oil and gas and agricultural sectors and its output covers bespoke single items through to large batch production.

Steetley Corner Group incorporates IT consultancy company, Acuma Technology, towbar specialist PCT Automotive and SevenHills Fabrication, based at Sheffield’s Holbrook Industrial Estate.
