Building consultancy embarks upon expansion

Leeds-based Silverstone Building Consultancy is looking to expand its team following a strong start to the year.

The firm, which opened an office in Park Square in 2018, is looking to recruit two new building surveyors, a construction project manager and an administrator to join its team.

The building surveying and project management specialist, which also has an office in Newcastle upon Tyne, says a strong pipeline of work has led to the recruitment drive.

Silverstone is currently appointed on various projects for British Land across the UK as well as monitoring work on behalf of Funders, predominantly in relation to industrial developments in South Yorkshire.

Over the past year Silverstone has worked on multiple projects including hotel acquisition surveys on behalf of Shepherd Cox, as well as professional work for other clients including McLaren, Doncaster Airport and Hanro.

The firm’s Leeds office is headed by Ben Rennocks, who joined the firm from CBRE. The new recruits will bring the firm’s total number of staff to 14 across its two offices.

Rennocks, director at Silverstone, said: “Since December, which may in part be due to increased political stability, we have seen an upturn in activity with our clients looking at investment opportunities and wanting to get on and resolve property related problems they have.”

Silverstone Leeds has seen turnover rise in the first quarter of 2020 in comparison to 2019. This follows a profitable first year where 67% of business came from new clients.

The firm has also been appointed on portfolio surveys across the UK for Mapeley Estates and Luxury Leisure as well as projects in York, Sheffield, Liverpool, London and Lincolnshire.

Richard Farrey, co-founder and director at Silverstone, added: “In the last two years we have appointed a non-executive director and a financial manager to help us with our long term strategy to become the first choice building surveyors for the north of England and with their help we are continuing to work towards this goal.

“We are now looking for some talented individuals who share our positive can-do working ethos to join our growing team.”

Elsewhere the firm has recently completed a £15m design and build manufacturing facility for SNOP UK in Sunderland as well as a new fulfilment centre for growing retailer, END, in Washington and the refurbishment of a major car parts manufacturing facility for Minth Group.
