Yorkshire growth plans for renewable energy business

One of the leading owner/operators in the UK’s onshore wind sector, Banks Renewables has revealed it plans to expand further in Yorkshire.

The firm currently operates four wind farms in the county, which in 2019 generated enough power to meet the needs of 31,500 homes while also generating £45,000 for community benefits funds across its four sites.

According to the family-owned firm, it is now looking to deploy further renewable energy technologies within Yorkshire across a range of new projects. These will add to the existing Penny Hill wind farm near Sheffield, Hook Moor scheme east of Leeds, Marr wind farm west of Doncaster and Hazlehead wind farm west of Barnsley and further increase the amount carbon dioxide displaced from the electricity supply network each year.
Richard Dunkley, managing director at Banks Renewables, said: “Our four Yorkshire wind farms have been performing well for many years and continue to not only generate substantial amounts of clean green electricity, but also tangible financial benefits for the communities in which they’re based.

“We’re currently working on a number of innovative renewable energy projects in Yorkshire, including solar energy and battery storage schemes, which will further increase the county’s contribution towards the UK’s ‘net zero’ goals and look forward to working with local communities and authorities as we bring them forward.”
