Agency round-up: MacComms; Fun; and more

A Yorkshire-based PR agency is celebrating five years of trading by announcing two new client wins.

Leeds-based MacComms has won contracts to manage the PR and social media for signage specialist Widd Signs and pyrometallurgical firm Inprotec.

MacComms is responsible for supporting Widd Signs with the promotions of its traditional and digital signage across its three northern sites.

Wakefield-based Inprotec has also joined as a client, with MacComms supporting the promotion of the firm which provides precious metal and other non-ferrous refineries across the globe with a dedicated engineering group.

MacComms was formed in April 2015 by multi-award-winning businesswoman Ellie MacDonald.

MacDonald said: “The last five years have been the most challenging but also rewarding years of my life.

“I’m incredibly proud to have built a business from scratch to one which now represents some of the most impressive Yorkshire-based entrepreneurial businesses.

“The new client wins are a great way to mark five years in business and with so much uncertainty at the moment it’s important to take stock of how far we’ve come and celebrate success.”

Managing director of Widd Signs, Gary Williams, added: “Widd Signs has been a successful business for over 100 years, but we weren’t very good at shouting about our success.

“We saw the great work Ellie and her team had been doing for Sound Leisure and appointed MacComms to help us having recently acquired a second business. We’re delighted with the work produced so far and look forward to a successful future working together.”

Leeds-based creative agency Fun has completed a branding project for the start-up alcohol free company Drynks Unlimited.

Drynks appeared on BBC2’s Dragons’ Den last month where it won the backing of Dragon Sara Davies, securing listings with all Booths Food Stores and obtaining UK-wide distribution with national drinks wholesaler Matthew Clark.

Paul Alexander, co-owner of Fun, said “We specialise in creating and refreshing alcohol brands so it was a great opportunity to work on an alcohol free project.

“We started building the brand from scratch after entrepreneur Richard Clark, founder of Drynks Unlimited, came to us with the idea for a range of alcohol free drinks.”

Drynks Unlimited launched with a range of Smashed ciders, beers and a lager which have proved popular and there are plans to establish further brand extensions including wine and spirits – all alcohol free.

Sarah Alexander, co-owner of Fun, added “From naming and creating the overarching brand, creating the look & feel for the brand, including packaging design for bottle, can and multi-pack formats to developing advertising concepts, this was a real case of starting with a blank piece of paper.

“Seeing the start-up business become so successful has proved our work a success.”

Yorkshire-based media relations agency, Scriba PR, has welcomed a new face to the team with the appointment of PR executive Alice Kelly.

Joining the organisation only nine days before the UK went into lockdown, Kelly has faced a steep learning curve, but has proven a vital asset in ensuring the technical communications specialist’s extensive client-base continues to enjoy ‘service as usual’.

Having previously worked as a content executive at a Huddersfield advertising firm, Kelly is already working on 11 B2B accounts, drafting social media, newsletter and web news copy – as well as helping with the distribution of press releases and feature articles.

With a keen interest in graphic design too, she brings an additional skillset to the team and has played a significant role in helping businesses to create a more visual social media presence during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Katie Mallinson, founder and MD of Scriba PR, said: “I’m delighted to see that Scriba PR is not only known for attracting complex projects and technical briefs, but we’re creating a place where creative talent wants to join, too.

“We’re working incredibly hard to maintain ‘business as usual’ while adjusting to a new normal, and the appointment of Alice will help us – and our clients – to navigate these tricky times.

“It’s been clear since day one that Alice is a perfect fit and we’ve all been impressed by her eagerness to roll up her sleeves and get stuck in.”
