Windows and doors installer re-evaluates industry traditions post Covid

Ian Chester

South Yorkshire-based firm Yorkshire Windows says it is embracing 21st century technology to support customers as is emerges from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The business is a specialist in uPVC doors and windows, composite doors, bi-fold doors, conservatories, orangeries, garage doors and roofline products.

The company has restarted work. But with client safety in mind, managing director Ian Chester says full social distancing measures remain in place.

He added: “We are delighted that we are now able to start fulfilling our orders and get on with a full programme of installations.

“Obviously our clients need to tell us that everybody on the property is okay and has no Coronavirus symptoms but once everybody is happy, work can go ahead as planned.

“Our installers will clean all surfaces and anything else that they have to touch and will be following a strict wash and wipe policy at all times throughout the installation.”

One of the biggest changes to the company’s working practices will be the introduction of online consultations with sales executive Nathan Gee, based at the Yorkshire Windows showroom at Ferndale Garden Centre, Dronfield.

Chester said: “We are very conscious that some clients will be wary of allowing people into their homes.

“But by utilising all the online technology that is now available, consultations can easily go ahead remotely.

“Virtual appointments will be easily made by simply visiting the Yorkshire Windows website or Facebook page and reserving a slot.

“Linking up via a Zoom meeting, Nathan will then demonstrate the range of products on display in our showroom and take them through our full catalogue via our website.

“Our showroom does remain open Monday to Friday 10am to 5pm and 10.30am to 4.30pm weekends, though again we are taking bookings strictly via our website or Facebook page only, as we minimise risk to both staff and customers.

“What the pandemic has done is give us a chance to re-evaluate some of the industry’s ingrained traditions and we believe we are developing new approaches to sales that many clients will find even more attractive and time efficient.”
