Metro Bank opens its first branch in Yorkshire

Metro Bank has opened its newest branch, in the heart of Sheffield city centre on Fargate.

It is the 77th branch to be opened by Metro Bank and its first base in Yorkshire. The business says it is continuing to expand its own network while other banks make closures.

It says its latest outlet will be opening in line with the latest Government guidance, with the bank implementing strict social distancing measures to protect customers and staff.

The bank’s opening hours have been temporarily adjusted following the Coronavirus outbreak, with branches open Monday to Saturday 10am – 4pm.

The bank usually operates seven days a weeks, early until late and says it is hoping to return to this timetable soon.

Metro Bank plans to open 15 branches in the north in the next few years. Customers at its new base in Sheffield will be welcomed by local director Michelle Slater and store manager Chris Gore.

The team in Sheffield has been fundraising for Brain Tumour Research and Support, Yorkshire’s Brain Tumour Charity.

This week the staff will complete the ‘Tour de South Yorkshire’. They have raised over £1,000 and will work together to complete 114 miles by cycling, walking and running.

Ian Walters, managing director, distribution at Metro Bank, said: “We are thrilled to be bringing great service and convenience to the people and businesses of Sheffield as we open our first store in Yorkshire.

“We’re sorry it has opened a little later than first planned, but we’re pleased to be opening the doors safely.

“As a community bank, we are committed to supporting local causes and delivering more than just banking, as seen by the fantastic effort the team has put in to complete its ‘Tour de South Yorkshire’ challenge for charity.”
