Renewable energy company plans to recruit another 150 staff

A Leeds-based renewable energy broker is bucking the downward trend in the economy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Planet-U Energy says it has experienced such rapid growth, it is having to open a second office in Leeds and has plans to recruit a further 150 employees by Christmas 2020.

The new 11,500 sq ft office will house up to 175 staff after it opens in July.

The firm was established in 2018 by entrepreneur Grant Nicholson. Since then it has sold £720m worth of energy contracts have been sold, while its own headcount has risen from one to 50 in under two years.

Planet-U Energy is currently recruiting energy brokers, account managers, sales executives and business development managers.

It aims to become the UK’s first exclusively renewables energy broker, helping clients save money on bills, reduce their overall business carbon footprint and implement clean energy technologies.

Working with Leeds City Council, the company plans to take on at least ten new recruits per month from June, although it has had to adjust its application process to meet with the social distancing guidelines of the Coronavirus lockdown.

Vicky Limerick, head of HR and recruitment at the company, said: “The entire recruitment process has been very different to our usual approach, but so far everyone has adapted incredibly well, and we have certainly seen some talented new recruits join the Planet-U team.”
