Translation tech firm supplies interpreting services at virus testing sites

People with limited spoken English can now access a telephone interpreting service, provided by Leeds-based translation technology provider thebigword Group, at COVID-19 testing sites around the UK.

The company is supporting the UK’s Department of Health and Social Care to provide language services to support the COVID-19 Testing Programme.

Services offered by thebigword include interpreting via telephone at all testing sites across the UK, translation of posters and guidance into multiple languages and voiceover translation for the department’s self-testing information videos.

thebigword is also supporting the door-to-door information service in Leicester with translation and interpreting – ensuring that as many people as possible know how to access COVID-19 testing sites.

CEO of thebigword Group, Joshua Gould, said: “It is essential for public health that important information about Coronavirus testing is available to everyone, and I am delighted that ministers have put their trust in us to deliver support for this work across the UK.”

Requests for language support will come through thebigword’s all-in-one language platform – WordSynk.

This provides instant access to translation and interpretation services via a network of over 20,000 professional linguists in over 250 language combinations.
