Weekender: restaurant re-opens with all new team

The Beehive restaurant in Thorner, North Leeds, is back open for business with an all new team, a summer menu and a bar area.

Offering a contemporary take on the traditional, rustic English countryside restaurant, The Beehive had barely arrived before it was forced to close temporarily due to the global pandemic.

Highlights of its summer a la carte menu includes the Tuna Verdita with cucumber, black sesame and soy, and the Tempura Sardines with tartare sauce, dill pea and lemon.

The Beef Fillet Carpaccio delivers a fruity spin on the classic dish and is served with crème fraiche, peach and rocket.

The main plates offer monkfish with pancetta, baby gem, peas, shallot, chive and cream, and the chicken served with truffle donut, corn, shallot and girolles.

Vegan dishes include the fragrant Braised Fennel with beets, spinach and asparagus, and the lightly spiced Harissa Carrots with yoghurt, lentils, chickpeas and broccoli.

Beehive regulars will be pleased to learn that their legendary Sunday lunch is also returning, while those looking to drop in for a casual drink can sample a selection of cask ales, wines, premium spirits and expertly crafted cocktails.

General manager Jessica Georgallis and head chef Craig Thorpe have worked together previously and bring a combined 20 years of hospitality experience to the new operation.

Georgallis said: “‘After a challenging first half of the year, we’re thrilled to be bringing The Beehive back with a stellar team and what we believe to be a stunning representation of modern British cuisine.

“It’s great to be working alongside our head chef Craig again, who never fails to impress with his culinary prowess.

“We can’t wait to welcome customers both new and old, and from near and far.”
