Extra Care homes development takes shape

A topping out ceremony has been held to mark a key milestone for Housing 21’s latest Extra Care scheme in North Yorkshire.

The development in Bentham for over 55s, called Bowland View, features eight bungalows and 64 one and two bedroom apartments for affordable rent and shared ownership.

It is being built in partnership with North Yorkshire County Council, Craven District Councils and Bentham Town Council.

This is Housing 21’s first Extra Care scheme in Bentham and it is designed to promote independent living in a community setting, with a care team on-site 24/7 to deliver planned care packages if needed.

It will include a café/bistro and hair salon, which are also accessible to visitors and the local community. There is also a residents’ lounge, activity room, and communal gardens for residents and guests.

Claire Charlton, head of Extra Care at Housing 21, said: “We are delighted to reach this important milestone in the development of Bowland View.

“The scheme will provide much needed affordable homes for older people in the area, with on-site, tailored care and support packages available to help residents live independently for as long as possible.”

Bowland View is set to open in summer 2021.
