Jobs created as national brands take up units at trade yard sites

An industrial site which has become home to an array of national brands is now at capacity after the latest tenant opened its doors.

MKM Building Supplies Ltd snapped up the last unit at The Trade Yard Scunthorpe, where it joins neighbours including Toolstation, Howdens Joinery, Valley Carpets, Motor Parts Direct and Hayley Group.

Allenby Commercial, owners and developers of the site, are now looking forward to welcoming additional major brands to the original Trade Yard site in Beverley and to the latest development at Willerby, near Hull.

MKM Scunthorpe becomes the 74th branch in the network of a business which was launched in Hull 25 years ago by David Kilburn.

The move will create 15 jobs, adding to the total of around 40 which have been brought to the area since Allenbys welcomed Toolstation as the first arrival in 2017.

The Trade Yard Beverley has supported the creation of around 50 jobs since it opened in 2016 and The Trade Yard Willerby, which is undergoing renovation after being acquired in September form Bonus Electrical, is expected to generate around 30 jobs initially.

Dale Gooderham, asset manager at Allenby Commercial, said: “We built this particular unit as an addition to the original Trade Yard Scunthorpe site when the land became available. MKM expressed interest about a year ago.

“It’s great to welcome them. They are a Hull business with a high profile and a great history going back 25 years.

“Their presence alongside the other tenants gives a good idea of the attraction of our Trade Yard locations and the quality of the facilities that we are able to provide.

“We expect to be in a position soon to announce details of the tenant which we have secured for the final unit at The Trade Yard Beverley and for the first arrival at The Trade Yard Willerby. They are both well-known, national brands.”

MKM Scunthorpe will showcase a range of building essentials including, plumbing and heating, electrical, roofing, timber, plaster and plasterboard, doors, windows and joinery.

It is headed by two branch directors, Karl Wilmore and Kevin Danks, who are both from Scunthorpe.

Kilburn said: “Our new branch in Scunthorpe offers an exciting opportunity for MKM. The building industry in the area has always been buoyant and our new team is very experienced, knows the local market and has an in-depth understanding of what trade customers need and will provide a customer service that is second to none.

“I would like to thank the whole team in MKM Scunthorpe for their hard work and boundless enthusiasm in opening the branch. It is a fantastic achievement for the brand.”
