Plans revealed for new Highways England depot

East Yorkshire will benefit from an extended service from Highways England if a new development in Newport gets the go ahead.

The Government agency has submitted a planning application to East Riding of Yorkshire Council to build a depot and salt barn on Green Park Business Park on the edge of the village.

Once constructed, the barn will have a total area of 6,910 sq ft and will be able to store up to 3,600 tonnes of salt.

It is part of a wider scheme that also includes a single-storey 3,616 sq ft office, a 5,683 sq ft garage/workshop and a yard with 21 car parking spaces and 10 bike parking spaces.

Green Park Business Park is being brought forward by commercial property developers, the Horncastle Group.

Managing director Ian Hodges said: “Highways England is rolling out a number of new depots in the UK and chose the location because of its close proximity to the M62/A63, and because it is central to the region the organisation will serve.

“If it gets the go ahead, gritters will work east to Hull docks and west along the M62 as far as Ferrybridge in West Yorkshire.

“Green Park is adjacent to junction 38 of the M62, where the M62 and the A63 join, meaning Highways England will have unparalleled access to the roads they will be working to keep clear.”

Green Park Business Park is home to a range of companies including the Horncastle Group, Everard Garage Equipment, Proqual, Swift Property, Lovel Developments, Enable Futures, Boiler Plan UK, Kingston Capital Finance and leading communications agency, tprc.

It is part of a growing employment hub along the A63/M62 corridor that includes North Cave, Newport and Gilberdyke and stretches as far as Goole and Howden in the west.
