Sock and hosiery seller opens up in leisure and retail centre

Specialist socks and hosiery retailer, Sockshop, has taken on a lease for 2,271 sq ft at The Light, in Leeds.

Headquartered in Crewe, Sockshop is predominantly an e-commerce business and in February 2020, launched the UK’s first sock vending machine, located at Stratford.

Commenting on the deal, managing director Amit Ruia said: “It’s fantastic to be opening a new store as UK retail is back open for business.

“We’ve worked closely with The Light to ensure our team and customers are safe. We have introduced new measures to welcome people back into the centre, so they can shop with confidence.”

Forbes solicitors advised Sockshop on the lease, supporting the retailer in its expansion across the Pennines to Leeds.

Forbes’ commercial property partner, Helen Marsh, led the deal. She said: “Sockshop’s brand and reputation have been built on its quality product and its focus on convenient shopping for consumers.

“The company’s original vision was to make socks as easy to buy as newspapers and while much of this strategy in recent years has been a shift to ecommerce, this new site in Leeds is a strong and strategic addition to the portfolio.”

Matt Illingworth of Hynes Illingworth, specialist retail agents advised Sockshop on the terms of the deal.
