Sheffield-based global metals supplier ICD Europe Ltd is ending 2020 by promoting one of its founding staff members to commercial director, as it continues its ambitious growth plans into 2021.

Chris Brzozowski has been employed as commercial manager at ICD Europe since the business launched in 2016. He will take on his new role in the New Year.

ICD Europe Ltd, which operates from a 38,000 sq ft purpose-built facility, is an expert in the procurement, processing and supply of a wide range of specialised metals and alloys.

It supplies customers in a variety of industrial sectors including the aerospace, medical, petrochemical, automotive, electronics and industrial gas turbine industries.

ICD Europe Ltd launched in October 2016, as part of the ICD Group, and has enjoyed rapid growth.

York-headquartered home builder Persimmon has appointed Andrew Wyllie to the Board as an independent non-executive director with effect from 4 January 2021.

He will also join the Board’s Audit and Nomination Committees on the same date.

Wyllie is an experienced construction sector executive and was most recently chief executive of Costain Group Plc for a period of 14 years, until his retirement in 2019.

Previously, he was managing director of Taylor Woodrow Construction and a member of the Group Executive Committee at Taylor Woodrow Plc.

He currently serves as a non-executive director on the Boards of Yorkshire Water and BMT Group Ltd, an engineering, science and technology consultancy.

Wyllie was previously a non-executive director of Scottish Water and president of the Institution of Civil Engineers.

Horticultural facilities specialist, Cambridge HOK, has appointed experienced specialist Dr Ian MacKenzie to head its expanding engineering and design division.

A chartered engineer who has held positions with responsibility for design and engineering in numerous manufacturing businesses for over 20 years, MacKenzie joins at a time when the East Yorkshire-based business is investing heavily in expanding its in-house design expertise.

He will oversee work on structural engineering for the firm’s many large scale development projects, including new commercial glasshouses and vertical farms.

Overseeing planning for heating, ventilation, air conditioning and C02 systems to ensure facilities perform at the ultimate levels of productivity and efficiency for clients will also fall under his responsibilities.

He said: “I’m excited to be joining CambridgeHOK as I have been highly impressed with the quality of projects the business is involved in and leading on at present, and in particular at how it has been pushing the boundaries and innovating in the food and fruit growing sector.

“My role will see me working to ensure we continually develop our design and engineering expertise through innovation.

“Obviously the first task is to understand how the business operates and then bring my experience to fine tune and develop.

“There is always room to improve how you work and to introduce methods and efficiencies to improve the service to clients.”

MacKenzie has worked in organisations supplying into a diverse range of industries throughout his career including telecommunications, oil & gas, power distribution, rail and construction.

Bingley and Chester-based Powerhouse Energy, a sustainable hydrogen company, has confirmed its appointment of Mark Berry to the Board as a non-executive director of the business with immediate effect.

Berry is a Partner at Norton Rose Fulbright LLP and specialises in the project financing of energy, infrastructure and process engineering projects.

He has particular expertise in the waste to energy (including materials recovery and fuel recovery from waste), transport and mining sectors.

His experience includes advising on a number of project financed waste and waste to energy schemes including PFI and merchant/commercial projects.

Berry is also a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers.

He said: “I’m pleased to be joining the Board in order to support the company as it develops its first DMG project.

“This is particularly exciting at a time when hydrogen and plastics are attracting global attention in terms of a solution to a problem.”

2021 will see the first commercial use of Powerhouse’s clean technology at a local level, providing a closed loop solution for non-recyclable plastic waste, whilst producing hydrogen fuel at the UK’s first Plastic Park located near Ellesmere Port, Cheshire.

Powerhouse and Peel L&P Environmental are collaborating to develop 11 waste plastic to hydrogen facilities across the UK.

These Plastic Parks are intended to revolutionise the way plastic waste is currently handled.
