Vehicle auction centre launched, despite lockdown disruption

G3 Vehicle Auctions has opened its new facility in Castleford, West Yorkshire.

The remarketing specialists have completed the construction and moved into what is the UK’s largest purpose-built independent auction and refurbishment development for over 20 years.

G3 had initially invited buyers to express their interest in attending a physical launch sale events, with a limited guestlist even issued.

However the national lockdown led to a last-minute switch to an online-only sale, streamed live from the auction facility, which saw a record 1,000 vehicles sold in the first three sales through the new centre.

With a capacity for over 50,000 vehicles a year, G3 has invested over £12m in a facility which designed to support the requirements of both its physical and online remarketing solutions long into the future.

The 14-acre site features stadium-standard LED screens, linked to a multi-lane bidding platform to create an interactive auction experience for both buyers and vendors.

Amanda Holtby, co-owner and director, said: “Whilst we could not wait to open and welcome a limited number of visitors to a physical launch sale, we had to react quickly to turn our attentions to online-only sales once again.

“We are proud the launch sales were still a huge success in these challenging times for everyone.

“In a time when many of our auction rivals are vocal in their futures lying solely with online-only sales, we have bucked the trend and invested heavily in a physical auction centre that will rival anything else on offer in the UK.

“We’ve built a reputation for our engaging and popular auction events, so when it’s safe to do so we will be inviting buyers new and old to visit our Castleford site to experience our huge undercover viewing hall and the new rostrum lanes for themselves.”
