City briefs: Marshalls and CPP Group

A senior member of the management team at manufacturer and landscape products group, Marshalls, is stepping down from his role.

The Elland-based business says further to its announcement on 11 March 2021 of Jack Clarke’s agreement with the Board to retire as group finance director and as an executive director, he has agreed to step down from the Board and as group finance director with effect from today.

A transition plan is well advanced and Clarke will remain with the Group until 31 March 2022 to ensure a smooth and orderly handover.

Also, Janet Ashdown has informed the Board that, after six years with the company, she wishes to retire from the Board with effect from the end of the company’s 2021 AGM in May.

The Board says it would like to thank Janet for her significant contribution to the success of the business, particularly in her capacity as senior independent non-executive director, chair of the Remuneration Committee and designated non-executive director for workforce engagement.

It adds that Ashdown has provided “invaluable knowledge and expertise” in helping the Board navigate a number of changes over recent years to the governance landscape for listed companies.

With effect from the end of this year’s AGM, Graham Prothero has agreed, in addition to his duties as chair of the Audit Committee, to assume the role of senior independent director.

He has been with the firm nearly four years and is an experienced listed company director.

Angela Bromfield will take over as chair of the Remuneration Committee and designated non-executive director for workforce engagement.

She has served more than 12 months on Marshalls’ Remuneration Committee and is the serving chair of the Remuneration Committee for both Churchill China PLC and Harworth Group PLC.

Leeds-headquartered CPP Group, which specialises in the financial services and insurance markets, says Justine Shaw, people and culture director and Board member since 2016 will leave the business on 16 April.

Jason Walsh, CPP Group chief executive, said: “Justine has played an integral part in helping to transform our culture, and as a result our business, since joining the company in 2012.

“The Board and I are grateful for her contribution and wish her all the best for the future.

“The people-centric culture we have at CPP is a great legacy that Justine leaves behind and one we’ll build on and benefit from in the coming years.”
