MasterChef finalist prepares to launch first solo venture

MasterChef Professionals finalist 2020, Jonathan Hawthorne, more commonly known as Chef Jono is preparing to launch his first solo venture as the chef patron of Vice & Virtue restaurant.

The chef who was described by series judge and Michelin starred Chef Marcus Wareing as “pushing the boundaries” is seeking to create a modern British dining experience which focuses on seasonal produce and creative cooking presented in a precise and elegant way.

The restaurant which will open on 19 May subject to government guidelines and lockdown restrictions will offer a signature tasting menu from Wednesday to Saturday and a special Sunday lunch tasting menu on a Sunday.

Some of the dishes set to feature on the tasting menu include those that captured the taste buds of judges on the hit BBC series including the bone marrow creme brûlée, which left renowned restaurant critic Grace Dent speechless, and the mushroom tiramisu which booked him his spot in the final of the show.

Commenting on the venture Chef Jono said: “I’m very excited to be launching my first solo venture as chef patron of Vice & Virtue. The last 12 months have been a roller coaster, with the hospitality industry facing challenges but also making it through to the final of MasterChef Professionals.

“Looking to the future, I’ve been fortunate over my 16 year career as a chef to train and work in some of the UK and world’s best restaurants including Noma in Copenhagen and Quay Restaurant in Sydney. But as a proud Yorkshireman I’m delighted to be launching my first solo venture in God’s own county.”

Bookings are currently open through to June visit the restaurants website for more information
