JD Sports Gyms flexes muscles with new gym lease

JD Sports Gyms has signed 15-year lease for a 31,055 sq ft building in Rotherham owned by Oakgate Group.

The building on Greasbrough Street was previously under the banner of Xercise4less and has undergone a major refurbishment which sees it reopen as JD Gyms Rotherham.

The 2.68 acre site also includes 138 dedicated car parking spaces.

JD Sports Gyms acquired 50 Xercise4less sites in July 2020, following the administration of the company.

The sites are being invested in and will benefit from a significant programme of improvements to meet JD Sport Gyms standards of fit-out, design and its brand identity.

Hollie Shackleton, of Oakgate Group, said: “It’s great to sign up such a respected gym operator in these uncertain times.

“The transformation of the building will create a fantastic experience for all its members, in this brilliant location.

“As a company, we work closely and creatively with occupiers to ensure we can meet their needs in all our developments.”

Alun Peacock, managing director at JD Gyms, said: “This is an incredible site for us with excellent prominence and huge underlying potential.

“We have now completed our extensive refurb works and look forward to welcoming members into their new facility, for them to benefit from our high quality fit out and premium provision, on a low cost basis.”

Oakgate Group is part of the Caddick Group and specialises in the acquisition, development and management of commercial, retail, leisure and residential property from its Wetherby headquarters.
