Expanding cinema chain to open its latest multiplex

Doncaster’s new Savoy cinema will finally be opening its doors on 17 May.

Work on the site completed last August, but the cinema has been unable to open due to pandemic restrictions.

Savoy managing director, James Collington, said: “After a long wait, we are extremely excited and proud to finally be able to open our brand new state of the art cinema and bring the Savoy experience to Doncaster town centre.”

He added cinema-goers can expect to experience the latest blockbuster releases in high quality surroundings, which will feature luxury recliner and rocker seating across all six auditoria.

Savoy Doncaster is the sixth site in Savoy’s growing cinema chain.

As well as the latest Hollywood releases, screenings of live events will be a regular feature, including theatre, opera, ballet and concerts streamed real-time from landmark venues across the world.

The cinema will be accessible to all with regular subtitled showings, a discounted kids club and a “silver screen” dedicated to guests over 50.

Screen hire opportunities for children’s parties, conferences or large private bookings will also be available.

Ros Jones, Mayor of Doncaster, said: “The opening of the new Savoy cinema complex is great news for Doncaster town centre.

“Our high streets and town centres are changing, we need more leisure, residential and cultural offerings to encourage people back into the town centre, to make it a vibrant place again.

“As we start to open up as the Covid pandemic eases, Doncaster residents and visitors are set to enjoy some wonderful new experiences.

“This development is a big vote of confidence in our town and borough with a lot more to look forward to.”
