Global recycling innovator turns on technology to support UK growth
Van Werven, the plastics recycling innovator, has invested in the latest workforce communications and safety technology from STORM Intelligent Communications to support its UK expansion plans.
The Dutch company, handles 120,000 tonnes of plastic every year and specialises in creating high-quality raw materials from post-consumer plastics collected from construction and industrial waste and local authority recycling centres.
It is expanding the capacity at its UK plant in Selby and has equipped its 35 operational staff with state-of-the-art communications technology from Harrogate-based STORM.
The STORM technology enables the company to immediately locate multiple team members and instantly communicate with them to increase safety and efficiency as it scales up operations.
Mark Talpade, commercial manager at Van Werven UK said: “We are continuously investing in innovations that help us further broaden the market for our products.
“This year, we are expanding our recycling capacity by 35 per cent with new plant and machinery and as a result will have many more heavy vehicle movements in and out of our busy site in Selby.
“We have invested in STORM Intelligent Communications to secure the health and safety of our people and help increase productivity while we meet growing demand.”

Van Werven, opened its UK site at the former Selby coalfield in 2011 and has played a pioneering role in shaping the plastic recycling industry and is an active supporter of initiatives to encourage waste recycling and the creation of raw materials through legislation and partnerships with governments and NGOs.
