People: Lupton Fawcett; CMS; Endless; Irwin Mitchell; and more

Yorkshire law firm Lupton Fawcett has appointed dispute resolution lawyer Simon Lockley as head of its Sheffield office.

He succeeds corporate lawyer Michele Phillips as the lead partner and will take responsibility for a growing team of specialist lawyers delivering commercial and private client services to the Sheffield City Region.

Lockley has worked with clients in Sheffield for more than 25 years and became head of the Sheffield dispute resolution team in 2013.

He has wide-ranging experience representing both individuals and organisations in high value litigation cases and a reputation as a robust and highly commercial litigator.

Lupton Fawcett’s Sheffield team has recently been boosted by the arrival of a number of key individuals, including commercial property partner Claire Mayfield-Tulip and private client senior solicitor Charlene Vilia.

The firm’s employment team has also been strengthened with the arrivals of experienced partner Glenn Jaques and solicitor Sabrina Rahman.

International law firm CMS has appointed of Gregor Woods as a partner joining from Kennedys, and promoted Tim Riordan to partner in its defendant personal injury team, part of the firm’s Insurance and Reinsurance group, with both Woods and Riodan to be based in the firm’s Sheffield office.

Woods, who was named a “Recommended Lawyer” by The Legal 500 and is a member of the Forum of Insurance Lawyers has significant experience advising large corporate clients and insurers in relation to the investigation and defence of personal injury claims.

Riordan advises corporates and insurers on complex high value reputational claims as well as bulk claims. He has an expertise in costs and claims handling processes and has been involved in test cases around noise induced hearing loss, vicarious liability, fixed portal costs avoidance and qualified one way cost shifting.

Woods and Riordanwill work closely together to support clients and their appointments further strengthen the firm’s overall dispute resolution offering in the North of England.

CMS Defendant Personal Injury team in Sheffield has also been strengthen by the hiring of Emily Whitehead as a senior associate. Emily joins CMS from DAC Beachcroft.

Private equity investor Endless LLP has confirmed a further seven promotions across its offices in, Leeds, London and Manchester following the recent announcement of four new partners.

The promotions  include Adam Milner to portfolio director at Enact alongside Leeds office colleagues David Isaacs , Stefan Nowakowski , Isabella Costoya-May who are promoted to investment director, investment director and executive assistant respectively.

Enact, the SME fund investing Enact Fund II of £30m, was similarly busy and completed the acquisitions of Realise, an apprenticeship provider, Evolutions, a TV post-production business, Bartoline, a heritage manufacturer of decorating products, and most recently the acquisition of Edbro, a manufacturer of hydraulic cylinders based in Bolton.

Irwin Mitchell has appointed two new associates to support the success of its West Yorkshire team and contribute to the firm’s post-pandemic growth plans for the region.

Based in the company’s Leeds office, Gillian Kaufman joins as a senior associate solicitor in the Restructuring & Insolvency team and Kathryn Pitters has been appointed as a barrister–associate in the firm’s Regulatory Investigations Group.

With a career spanning 25 years, Kaufman is an expert in the full range of contentious and non-contentious insolvency matters and advises insolvency practitioners, corporate and individual clients.

She is experienced in formal insolvency procedures and informal restructuring, turnaround, refinancing arrangements and advising distressed businesses.

She also has specific expertise in international debt recovery work recovering UK debt for international clients.

Joining the firm’s Regulatory Investigations Group headed by Jason Newall, Pitters is an expert in professional discipline and healthcare regulatory work.

She arrives from Capsticks LLP, where she assisted with the establishment of the new specialist regulator, Social Work England.

Over the last 15 years, she has been a member of Charter Chambers in London, with significant experience of financial regulatory and professional discipline work.

The latest appointments follow Leeds-based banking and finance partner Paddy Sturman joining the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) Yorkshire and Humber Council earlier this year.
