Film studio moves to a different beat with expansion
Leeds film company The City Talking is expanding its operations with a new division of the studio, The City Talking Sounds.
The move follows the huge success of the film studio in recent years, which recently produced two series of the acclaimed Leeds United documentary series Take Us Home which followed the club for two seasons as it triumphantly returned to the Premier League against the back drop of Covid and is now working on a documentary about the life of professional wrestler Davey Boy Smith aka The British Bulldog.
Now the studio will be branching into the world of audio with the launch of a record label, as well as producing and managing podcasts, music for film and representing talent from across the world.
The first release from The City Talking Sounds will be a limited white vinyl release of ‘Take Us Home’ – the title track of their acclaimed Amazon Prime documentary. Released in conjunction with Leeds United and Leeds based artist Ellen Smith, ‘Take Us Home’ is limited to just 1000 copies, with the majority available from the Leeds United club store.
An acclaimed singer, songwriter and life-long Leeds fan, Smith was tasked with creating a song to act as the limited documentary series’ soundtrack. Deciding to forego the chest-thumping, boisterous party anthems of football past, Smith sat down and wrote a beautiful, downbeat but ever hopeful ballad that captured the highs and lows of supporting Leeds over the decade and a half since their relegation from the Premier league.
Upon the release of the documentary, fans were instantly drawn to Smith’s music and reflection of life at Leeds and the song has quickly become cherished among fans. Wanting to mark the end of the club’s success in its first season back in the Premier league, The City Talking and Smith decided to press ‘Take Us Home’ onto 7” vinyl for a limited run, taking the idea to the club who immediately wanted to get involved and support the release.
A limited run of 1000 copies of ‘Take Us Home’ are available on 7” vinyl now from the Leeds United Store & The City Talking
