Funeral provider launches £2.8m care centre

Co-op Funeralcare has opened a new £2.8m care centre in Leeds, which will look after people’s loved ones from across Yorkshire.

The centre, located in Cross Green, features ritual washing rooms so that cultural traditions and practises can be carried out in a private, modern and comforting environment.

The care centre will also act as an educational centre of excellence for the north for those taking part in the funeral provider’s embalming apprenticeship, making it just one of Co-op’s three UK locations to offer such educational facilities including Reading and Edinburgh.

Helen Chandler, head of operations at Co-op Funeralcare, said: “Our new care centre in Leeds will allow our colleagues across Yorkshire to have access to sector-leading facilities and provide the very highest standards of care, in a dignified and private setting, to loved ones who rest with us.

“Whilst plans for its launch were underway well before Covid took hold, the pandemic has certainly shone a light on the need for appropriate centres such as this, which can offer huge comfort to families who know their loved ones are being cared for in the best possible way, before their final farewell takes place.

“We are committed to serving communities across Yorkshire in their times of need and also fostering the next generation of embalmers who will be able to develop their skills in Leeds.”
