£2.2m contract awarded to transform ‘blot on the landscape’

Hull City Council has appointed local firm Geo Houlton & Sons Ltd as lead contractor to carry out redevelopment and reinstatement work at 52A – 54 Beverley Road (Brunswick Arcade).

The contract is worth nearly £2.2m and will involve the careful demolition and clearance of the existing remaining structure at these premises, plus a rebuild of the structure to create shell retail units on the ground floor, and fully completed residential apartments on the first, second, and third floor levels.

Funding to develop the project includes the National Lottery Heritage Fund and a contribution from the council’s Capital Programme budget.

Councillor Daren Hale, leader of Hull City Council, said: “For far too long this area has been of a blot on the landscape and I am extremely pleased work will finally start soon.

“I’m delighted to have trusted local developers Houlton & Sons on board who I know will deliver this project to the highest standard.”

Work will begin on site later this summer and is estimated to be complete by autumn 2022.
