Plans to turn Bingo hall site into supermarket

Lidl GB has announced plans for a new store and drive-thru unit on the western side of Park Road, in Castleford.

The multi-million pound investment will redevelop the site of the current Buzz Bingo on Park Road, close to the Junction 32 shopping outlet.

It is Buzz Bingo’s intention, in the long-term, to relocate to new premises within the Castleford area.

The new store would have a 13,500 sq ft sales area, an in-store bakery, customer toilets and 130 car parking spaces including disabled, parent & child spaces as well as rapid electric vehicle charging points.

Lidl intends to submit a planning application to Wakefield Council in the coming weeks.

The business has launched an online consultation to allow the public to offer their views on its proposals.

A spokesman for Lidl GB commented: “We are extremely excited about the prospect of opening a new Lidl store in Castleford.

“Our plans are set to create new job opportunities, which would be fantastic for the local community, and we hope as many people as possible are able to join us for this ‘virtual’ public consultation.

“We look forward to sharing and discussing our plans with everyone.”
