Planning consent secured for 470 homes

An application for 470 new homes in Bridlington has been approved by East Riding of Yorkshire Council.

Pegasus Group secured the consent on behalf of Keepmoat Homes and the landowners for the development on land north of Strawberry Fields, Kingsgate. Pegasus Group obtained outline planning permission for this site in May 2017.

Chris Calvert, executive director based in Pegasus Group’s Leeds office, said: “The adopted Development Plan proved relevant in this case. Put simply, the town needs more housing and population to get to where it wants to be to assist its regeneration and this proposal meets that objective.

“We are delighted the council has accepted the many benefits that the scheme will bring, including: street hierarchies not dominated by car parking, strong landscaping provision that is linked to character areas and consideration of ecological concerns and a substantial amount of public open space.

“Also, and importantly, the scheme will provide 94 homes – or 20% of the total – to be managed by a Registered Provider, in perpetuity, therefore delivering new homes of this type to a scale not seen in the town for many years, if at all.”

Calvert acknowledged that concern had been expressed by residents about the development.

But he added: “This is a long-standing housing allocation with outline consent, but many of the comments are related to matters of principle – which cannot be taken into account at this time.

“Equally, a number of matters have been raised about an adjoining woodland, something that the applicants have no control over.

“However, we have been able to assure planners that the woodland will be retained and linked to the ecology corridor along Bessingby Beck and at the sites periphery.”

Pegasus Group provided planning, landscape and urban design elements of this scheme, working with Alan Wood & Partners and Wright Environmental.
