Tallest student accommodation building in northern Europe is completed

The tallest student accommodation building in Northern Europe – at 116m – has just been finished in Leeds city centre with work on the 37-storey property reaching practical completion.

The Olympian Homes development, Altus House on Tower House Street, includes 752 student rooms has been constructed as a net zero carbon build development. It has been funded and will be operated by iQ Student Accommodation.

Construction started on the 255,000 sq ft development in October 2018 through RG Construction. The net zero carbon landmark was reached through offsetting using a gold standard verified emissions reduction scheme that is focused on delivering wind power and renewable energy.

The first residents are expected to move in during September 2021.

James Lindridge, development director for Olympian Homes, said: “We are committed to delivering high quality developments and delivering our first building that’s Net Zero Carbon Build alongside RG Construction is a great achievement, and one we are committed to replicate.

“The scheme will help to meet the considerable demand for student housing in Leeds and we hope will set a quality benchmark for student accommodation in the area.”

Olympian Homes is also developing other major student accommodation developments, including the Arena Point site – Leeds, and has recently put forward plans to redevelop the former Mecca bingo hall in York.
