Community Foundation spotlight

Rashik Parmar

Rashik Parmar is a fellow and vice president of technology at IBM, and has over 35 years of experience in the technology sector.

Outside of work he is a proud member of Leeds Community Foundation Member and he caught up with TheBusinessDesk.com to share what drives his philanthropic ambitions.

“Social value is often at the heart of everything we do as humans” he explained, “and we often don’t realise. I remember the words of the Prayer of St Francis of Asisi – ‘It is only in giving we receive’.

“Social value gives hope to those that need it most and at a time they need it.”

Parmar spoke about his personal motto “creating a world that we all want to be part of”, explaining that while he cares about all community issues, he typically focuses on the ones he feels he can help.

He cites being the chair of the Employment and Skills Panel for the Leeds City Region Local Enterprise Partnership Board as an example of one of the roles he has taken on in order to support the community and next generation.

“I am also part of the core team that launched Rangoli Radio – a community radio station that celebrates the colourful lives of the Hindu community in Yorkshire.”

Reflecting upon the challenges of the last 18 months and how the Covid-19 pandemic has brought various community needs to light he said it has reminded people to care.

“The pandemic has reminded us that we can and should care for each other, and the selfless actions of others has also highlighted some of the needs that were not so evident in the past.

“Whilst I do not view the investments into the community any differently, I am more aware of the scale and range of investment needed.”

He ended the conversation emphasising the positive impact of supporting Leeds Community Foundation.

“Anyone that has an affinity to Leeds will find that Leeds Community Foundation will amplify the impact of your support and are very accommodating of your personal values.”
