Multi-million pound plans for improved leisure facilities
A new leisure and wellbeing centre is coming to Knaresborough.
The facility – that will replace the existing ageing pool – will provide a six-lane 25-metre pool, a learner pool with flume, sauna and steam room, fitness suite and studio, a spin studio, a café as well as electric car charging points, a bicycle storage and large play area.
The news follows approval from Harrogate Borough Council to develop plans to provide new leisure facilities in both Knaresborough and at the Hydro in Harrogate.
A consultation at the end of last year concluded the existing location was the preferred site for the improved facility.
Since then, Alliance Leisure Services – the borough council’s development partner for the new leisure facilities in both Harrogate and Knaresborough – has been busy developing proposals.
These are designed to meet the varying needs of the community by providing modern, fit-for-purpose leisure and wellness facilities for generations to come.
Residents are now invited to share their views on the design proposals ahead of a planning application being submitted later in the autumn.
Councillor Stanley Lumley, Harrogate Borough Council’s cabinet member for culture, tourism and sport, and chair of the board of directors at Brimhams Active, said: “We have ambitious plans to reduce the proportion of the population that are physically inactive but we can’t do this without investing in our facilities.
“This multi-million pound investment for Knaresborough will create a 21st century facility that provides fantastic opportunities for local people to move more, live well and feel great.
“Along with our new facility in Ripon and the redevelopment of the Hydro in Harrogate, as well as the districts other great leisure centres and pools, I hope people feel motivated, supported and inspired to stay active.”
