Property people: JLL and Bellway Homes

James Mohammed

JLL in Leeds is poised for continued growth as it welcomes senior hire James Mohammed to lead its residential development team in the North East and Yorkshire.

Mohammed joins as director with over a decade of experience, most recently at Allsop LLP where he focused on the acquisition and disposal of development sites on behalf of house builders, private developers, property companies, investment funds, high net worth individuals, receivers and administrators.

In his new role, he will head the residential land and development team in Yorkshire and the North East.

Day-to-day he will be responsible for working with private and corporate landowners to bring land forward for disposal to regional and national house builders and acting for clients to acquire development opportunities.

Brad Harris

The team has also recently welcomed Brad Harris as an associate to support on the acquisition and disposal of residential development opportunities, and providing consultancy advice to a variety of clients, including the public and private sector.

Harris is a Chartered Surveyor with experience across the residential development sector, having previously worked at both Allsop LLP and Cushman & Wakefield.

Jeff Pearey, head of Yorkshire & North East at JLL, said: “I am especially pleased to welcome Brad and James to JLL, given the significant opportunities in residential land and investment across the region.

“The skills that James and Brad will bring, complement our existing market-leading agency, capital markets and development teams, and also add to our customer-facing residential agency and lettings business.

“It was a part of our offering we were especially keen to fill and we are already seeing the benefit of their knowledge and experience when considering broader mixed-use schemes.

“Following an active six months of recruitment, we have attracted a number of talented individuals across several other sectors, including Industrial Agency and Development Consultancy.

“We wish all our new joiners every success in their journey with JLL.”

The Yorkshire division of national homebuilder, Bellway Homes, has promoted three construction workers and a graduate trainee to site management roles.

Samantha Couchman, Matt Kavanagh, Wayne Feather and Dominic Brozenitz have been promoted to assistant site managers in Howden, Menston, Pocklington and Wakefield respectively.

Jim Brooks, Bellway Yorkshire’s managing director, said: “When people think of Bellway the first thing they think of is the homes we build – and rightly so. What is often overlooked is that we are also a major employer with a long and proud history of building careers.”

“The business was formed in 1946 and today we employ close to 3,000 staff in 22 divisions across England, Scotland and Wales.

For every role we advertise we always invite applications from internal applicants, and it’s particularly rewarding to see four members of the Yorkshire team taking their first steps into management at the same time.”

Brosenitz, 24, from Pocklington, was previously a site labourer/storeman at Wellington Grange in Pocklington. He is now assistant site manager at Swanland Grange, in Swanland.

Leeds-based Couchman, 31, was in the first cohort of graduate trainees at Bellway and worked in construction at Imperial Gardens in Howden, which is where she is currently based in her new role.

Feather, 41, also from Leeds, worked as finisher on Bellway’s Spofforth Hill development in Wetherby prior to being promoted to assistant site manager at St John’s View in Menston.

Kavanagh, 29, had been working as a finisher at City Fields in his hometown of Wakefield and will stay there as assistant site manager.

Couchman said: “There aren’t many big businesses where you can enter on the bottom floor and look up through ranks and see so many people at so many different levels who started their careers in the same way.

“Bellway offers a real chance for career progression and it’s great to have taken the first of what I really hope will be a lot of steps over the next few years.”

Bellway Homes is currently building on 13 developments across Yorkshire, and has a further four developments due to launch in early 2022.
