Early stage plans revealed for 72-bed care home

Draft plans have been drawn up for a purpose-built care home at the site of Blue Beck House, off Shipton Road in York.

Proposals include 72 en suite bedrooms, dayrooms, flexible space for activities, lounges and dining areas. The site would have extensive outdoor garden space with wider landscaping to limit views to and from the site.

Developer Torsion Care Ltd is inviting the community to provide feedback about its plans.

The site is proposed to be removed from the Green Belt in the new Local Plan for York and includes the currently unused Blue Beck House which would be replaced with the modern care home.

The care home would be accessed from Blue Beck Drive with access improved to nearby Clifton House. Plans include a dedicated parking area with 22 spaces including accessible and visitor bays.

Torsion Care is a Yorkshire-based care home builder, delivering care homes, assisted living, and extra care facilities. The site would be managed by Burghley Care, which is part of the wider Torsion Group.

The proposed development would deliver 50 full time and 20 part time jobs in a range of positions across healthcare and the general running of the care home.

A spokesperson for Torsion Care said: “Our draft plans have been sensitively designed to reflect the surrounding area and we are engaging with York City Council to help ensure this proposal meets existing needs.

“We are keen to be a good neighbour to nearby residents and hope the local community will contribute to our public consultation to help inform the emerging scheme.”

Torsion Care adds that it intends to submit a planning application to City of York Council in the coming months.
