City briefs: Filtronic and Carclo

Filtronic, which designs and makes products for the aerospace, defence, telecom infrastructure and communications markets, has secured a follow-on contract worth $0.9m/£0.7m.

The new contract, which is for communications technology for a customer based in the USA, follows successful delivery of a pilot production phase in FY2022.

Revenue is expected to be recognised in FY2023 and Shipley-based Filtronic says the deal meets its strategic objective of broadening its customer base.

The company adds it also establishes an adjacent telecommunications market which it has been actively targeting for growth.

Richard Gibbs, chief executive officer, said: “We are pleased to have been chosen as the production partner for these technically challenging mmWave products.

“Once again, we have been able to demonstrate the importance of our in-house manufacturing, and our ability to take a design all the way through from initial concept into full production.

“We now look forward to the challenge of delivering production units working to secure future manufacturing orders of this product.”

Carclo Group, which makes tolerance injection moulded plastic parts and aerospace components, has appointed non-executive director Frank Doorenbosch as a consultant to the group for up to 12 months.

Doorenbosch will become an executive director of the Wakefield-based business for this period.

He will focus on assisting the Carclo Technical Plastics division to improve its operational effectiveness in the face of rapidly increasing demand coupled with current supply chain challenges.

During this consultancy period he will temporarily step down from all board committees (Audit, Remuneration and Nomination). Joe Oatley, the senior independent non-executive director, will act as chair of the Remuneration Committee in place of Doorenbosch.

Doorenbosch will waive his right to receive his non-executive directorship fees in the period.

Nick Sanders, executive chair of Carclo, said: “Frank brings extensive experience in the plastics industry together with a strong track record of operational delivery.

“During his tenure as a non-executive director, he has developed a detailed knowledge of the group, which has made him a strong individual to help drive forward our plans.”
