Film company kicks off new deal with Amazon with latest project

The City Talking and Rangers Football Club have agreed a deal for the new feature film Rangers72 to be acquired by Prime Video for exclusive digital release in the UK Ireland from today.

The film, which is produced by the Leeds-based studio, tells the story of the legendary Rangers team of 1972 and its journey to a European Cup Winners Cup triumph at Barcelona’s iconic Camp Nou, earning the players the nick-name of the ‘Barca Bears’, it also features never-before-seen fan footage of the trip to Barcelona.

Directed by Giuseppe De Luca, it is the latest in a series of sports documentaries produced by the company to appear on Prime Video, following both Take Us Home: Leeds United and As Good As It Gets?, which were also produced by The City Talking.

Lee Hicken, executive producer of the film and founder of The City Talking said: “We are really happy to continue our relationship with Prime Video and to see the film being made available to Prime members. This is a special story and we want it to be seen by as many people as possible”.

James Bisgrove, commercial and marketing director at Rangers said “The remarkable achievements of the ‘Barca Bears’ in 1972 will forever be a remembered as a defining moment in the club’s rich 150 year history.”

“This May marked the 50th anniversary of their famous victory and it felt fitting for us to reach the 2022 UEFA Europa League Final, with Rangers supporters following the club in record numbers across Europe on this brilliant journey back to Spain.

“We’re delighted to work with Prime Video to make the iconic Rangers72 movie available to supporters and the wider football community.”

The announcement of the latest deal with Amazon comes after the studio took the decision last year to expand, launching a new division focused on music.
