Local insurer’s backing of cancer support charity builds community resilience

A cancer support group has received more than £6,300 from a special charity fund established by a rural insurer.

NFU Mutual partners Caroline Pullich, Samantha Webster and Liz Oxley along with their colleagues at the Boston Spa & Harrogate office nominated local cancer support charity Maggie’s to receive the donation from NFU Mutual’s national £1.92m ‘Agency Giving Fund’.

The insurer has launched this fund, now in its third year, to help local frontline charities across the country.

The Agency Giving Fund forms part of NFU Mutual’s £3.25m funding pledge for both local and national charities in 2022, to help tackle the ongoing effects of the pandemic and assist with recovery.

To ensure these donations reach all corners of the UK and are directed where they’re needed most, NFU Mutual’s Agents, with over 295 offices nationwide, have been given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund.

The donation has enabled anyone visiting Maggie’s Yorkshire to receive advice, support and guidance at a time when they need it most.

Amy Town, centre fundraising manager, Maggie’s Yorkshire, said: “The work that Maggie’s does ensures people with cancer and their family and friends have access to free support and advice from highly trained members of staff.

“This means getting useful information about the side effects of treatment, helping with money worries or simply being comforted by a friendly face with a cup of tea.”

Caroline Pullich, managing partner at Boston Spa covering Yorkshire, added: “NFU Mutual has been a champion of rural communities the length and breadth of the UK for over 110 years, and the Agency Giving Fund champions local causes that are working day and night to change people’s lives and give hope for a better future.

“I am a proud Board Member of Maggie’s Yorkshire and we’re extremely proud to have nominated Maggie’s for this donation and delighted to be able to support the vital contribution they make to our community.”
