Potential new ownership beckons for nursery retailer

Huddersfield-headquartered nursery and baby products chain, Mamas & Papas, is reportedly being put up for sale by its private equity backers.

Sky News says it understands the wholesaler and retailer, which has been owned by Bluegem Capital since 2014, is working with bankers at Rothschild on a potential auction.

Mamas & Papas also sells products in 40 countries via a network of distribution partners and franchisees.

This is a turnaround from a pre-pack administration deal in 2019, and an earlier company voluntary arrangement aimed at cutting its financial liabilities.

In its latest financial year ending in March, the business reported earnings before interest, tax, depreciation, and amortisation of £11m, compared to a loss of £6m two years earlier.
