Bargain store chain to open latest branch at retail park

Poundland is putting the finishing touches to its new store at Sheffield’s Meadowhall Retail Park – its second new opening in the city this year.

The new store at Units D1 and D2, Meadowhall Retail Park, Sheffield S9, is due to open on 27 August. At around 10,500 sq ft, it will employ 20 full and part-time staff.

It will join the growing number of Poundland stores, set to pass 350 this year, to sell chilled and frozen food, powered by Fultons, a Barnsley-based frozen food specialist acquired in 2020.

The opening on Meadowhall Retail Park, to the north of the city, follows the opening in March of Poundland at Heeley Retail Park, in Chesterfield Road, to the south. Both are significantly larger than a typical Poundland store.

Poundland director of retail, Darren Kay, said: “We’ve already got a strong presence in Sheffield and we’re pleased to be adding to it with our new Meadowhall Retail Park store.

“It complements our new Sheffield Heeley store and our other locations around the city. The new store has been designed to show off Poundland at its best and like all our stores it will offer amazing value to help our customers as their household budgets feel the squeeze.”

The new store joins existing Poundland stores in the area, including Angel Street, the Moor, Castle Square, Hillsborough Barracks shopping centre, Manor Top and Meadowhall.

Sheffield Meadowhall Retail Park is one of up to 25 new stores and relocations planned by the end of the year.
